Massachusetts ROC is #200

Town and Country Estates leaders celebrate the purchase of their community and becoming the 200th ROC.

KINGSTON, Mass. – When the 212 homeowners at Town and Country Estates signed the paperwork to purchase their community for more than $7 million, it was a big moment and a big number for them.

But it was big for ROC USA® as a whole, too.

Town and Country became the 200th resident-owned community to work with ROC USA. The April  2017 purchase was a milestone that put ROC USA’s nationwide totals at 12,465 homes in 14 states.

“Purchasing the park is a dream come true.  This is an attractive place where residents want to put down roots,” said Town and Country Board Secretary Roberta Love. “Now that we own it, we’re going to work hard to keep the budget in good shape so our neighbors can continue their retirement here without being forced out.”

John Perry, Second Vice President at Town and Country, said the excitement grew at every community meeting through the purchase process.

“We tried to buy the park several years ago, but we weren’t able to,” Perry said. “With ROC USA and CDI’s assistance, we were successful. Now we’ll never have to worry about a big firm coming in and gobbling us up.”

ROC USA® Network Director Mary O’Hara was on hand for the celebration, where she said she was impressed with how much the neighbors had coalesced around the purchase.

“Town and Country has a large and well-oiled band of volunteers, men and women, who ran the kitchen, ran the dining room and cleaned up,” O’Hara said. “Many people commented on how much they loved the community and how unusually close-knit the neighbors are.”

“The 200th is definitely a nice place to pause and take stock of all 200 ROCs and the thousands of Members,” said ROC USA President Paul Bradley.  Town and Country was only the newest ROC for nine days. Park Place in Peabody, Mass., became No. 201 on May 5.”
